In the early … gulp …. ‘70’s, Carly Simon released her hit, “You’re So Vain”. Almost 40 years ... IT CAN'T BE!!!!!..... later there is still much speculation as to the identity of the man Carly spites in the lyrics. Many fingers point to her old boyfriends around the time which include quite a list: Kris Kristofferson, Cat Stevens …. You know him now as Yusuf Islam. Ummm okay …… her husband James Taylor, Warren Beatty ……. who called and thank’d her for writing a song about him ….. and Mick Jagger …. who sang back up vocals in the song. Is he in on it? ……In 2003 she sold off the secret in a charity auction. So, Dick Ebersol (the winner), the one person he was allowed to tell (assuming his wife Susan St. James) and Carly know who the conceited egotist is. Ebersol was also allowed to publicly release a clue: the person has a letter “e” in his name. Since then, Carly herself has released additional letter clues of “a” and “r”. HHHHmmmm …… let me get a pen and paper to eliminate suspects ……
Simon has re-release an acoustical version of “You’re So Vain” on her new aptly named album: “Never Been Gone”. ........ My all time favorite Simon song “That’s The Way I’ve always Heard it Should Be” is included … GROOVEY! ...... Presumptuously, I see it as an attempt to promote her album by announcing she has a contest for a video of the legendary song .... VAIN … not my favorite .... sniff!......
